With the time change and the sun setting earlier, we want to remind everyone to stay alert and practice safe travel habits when heading to and from school. Whether walking, biking, or riding the bus, safety starts with awareness.
For Students Who Ride Bikes:
Make sure your bike has a white light on the front and a red reflector or light on the back so drivers can see you.
Always ride with the flow of traffic, never against it.
Follow all traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs.
Wear a helmet and stay alert for cars pulling out of driveways or turning at intersections.
For Students Who Walk:
Use sidewalks and crosswalks when possible.
Stop and look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
Avoid distractions like phones or headphones when crossing.
If walking in low light, wear bright or reflective clothing to stay visible.
For Bus Riders:
Arrive at your stop a few minutes early, and wait safely away from the road.
Don’t approach the bus until it has come to a complete stop and the driver signals you to board.
After school, take extra care if crossing the street near your stop. Always make eye contact with the driver before crossing in front of the bus.
For Drivers in Our Community, including Student Drivers and Parents During Drop-Off and Pick-Up:
Please slow down in school zones and neighborhoods, especially during before- and after-school hours. Keep an eye out for students walking, biking, or waiting for the bus — and remember, a few extra seconds of caution goes a long way toward keeping our students safe.
Let’s work together to make sure every Panther gets to school and home safely each day!
